Country house with timber frame

This rural timber-frame house is defined by its consistent material palette and its varied composition of volumes, resulting in a coherent yet dynamic architectural whole.

The design brief was to create a home with a rural character that responds to the existing architectural typology of its surroundings. The surrounding context consists of a varied ribbon development of detached houses, characterized by a wide range of roof forms.

The design is based on a primary volume complemented by several recessed annexes, creating a lively composition both externally and internally. The volumetric arrangement draws inspiration from traditional farmhouse architecture, breaking down the perceived mass of the new building and allowing it to integrate naturally into the streetscape. Internally, the layout establishes a sequence of interconnected spaces, each living area possessing its own distinct identity and spatial experience.

The detached house is positioned well within the plot boundaries to maximize sunlight exposure throughout the day. The garage roof transitions into a shallower pitch on one side, reducing the apparent scale of the roof and creating a lighter presence along the front façade.

The house is constructed using a timber-frame system, with the honesty of the construction method reflected in the choice of façade materials. The exterior cladding takes inspiration from the characteristic Long Island architectural style, reinterpreted in a contemporary rural context.
