Renovation Apostle houses

Four apostle houses on the former site of the ‘Hospice Canfijn’ were renovated into two transit homes with a more spacious living comfort on behalf of the OCMW (Social Welfare Department) in Ronse.

Within architecture, the pursuit of improving the living environment is one of the main drivers. Searching for solutions around our increasingly complex living arrangements is an inherent part of that. The OCMW demonstrates itself as a forerunner in this fascinating search by providing an answer to new forms of living and fulfilling them in a way that goes beyond providing shelter. Such a project shows that the OCMW can rightly and in the full sense of the word be called a public center for social welfare.
In the first place, the transit home is a temporary shelter for people with an acute housing need. Here we find the right to housing as a basic right, one of the cornerstones of our society. Feeling connected to an environment, a society, begins with good and decent housing. This also applies to those who, for whatever reason, temporarily do not have a place to live.
They also reflect a vision of realizing such projects in light of an ecologically and heritage responsible background. By renovating the apostle houses, this beautiful project seamlessly connects to a rich tradition of assistance provided by the OCMW of Ronse.

The renovations to two transit homes are mainly carried out internally, which preserves the overall appearance and view of the former apostle houses of the ‘Hospice Canfijn’.
